Recently, Southern Pine Electric Cooperative brought it’s “A Cooperative Environment” program to the Atmore, Brewton and Flomaton Public Libraries as a part of each of the library’s summer reading programs. The Cooperative Environment program is a fun and educational program, presented in an informal manner, that allows children and adults the opportunity to learn more about the natural history of the environment we all share.
The program is a unique, hands-on program presented by herpetologists Jimmy and Sierra Stiles. The program focuses on amphibians and reptiles found in our native environment, and teaches children about the unique physiological differences these animals. The biologists discuss the important roles of area children, adults and the electric cooperative as environmental stewards. Children are afforded the exciting opportunity to see, touch and hold a number of non-venomous reptiles and amphibians that live in our area.
